A surface planer is used to create a flat, straight and square reference surface. Once the workpiece has been planed, it can be passed through a thickness planer to achieve the required thickness and parallel surfaces.
Combined machines are also available, where the surface planer and thickness planer are integrated into one machine. This is a practical solution if you want to save space in the workshop or need both functions in a single machine.
A Tersa cutterblock makes it quick and easy to change knives without the need for adjustment. The system provides a very smooth surface and reduces downtime, which is a major advantage in both smaller workshops and larger production environments.
Clean the machine regularly to remove chips and dust, check that the tables and fence are properly aligned, and make sure the knives in the cutterblock are sharp or replaced when necessary.
For hobby use and smaller workshops, a working width of around 310 mm is often sufficient. For professional production, models with a working width of 410 mm or more are generally recommended.
Yes, a surface planer can be used for both softwood and hardwood. When working with harder wood species, however, it is important to use sharp knives and a machine with sufficient motor power.
At Junget, you get more than just a machine. We understand the entire woodworking process and can help you find the surface planer that best suits your needs – both now and in the future.
We also provide installation, service and spare parts, helping to keep your surface planer running reliably for many years.
